The Track Season Has Begun, Riders to the Rail!

The Colorado Velodrome Association (CVA) kicked off the 2006 season on June 1st with the first of 28 nights of racing.  Also on the calendar for the 2006 season are two UCI events, two district championships, Master Nationals and many other weekend events.  The CVA has also established a long list of track racing schools for the beginners and specialized learning such as Madison and Keirin Clinics. The association is supporting the Colorado Springs Youth Cycling League on Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons throughout the summer.  So if you have a young cyclist, 10 years and older, who is ready to learn the skills and experience the excitement of track racing bring them on down.  The 7-11 Velodrome Manager, John Cotton, is in for a long hard but fun summer.

A couple of significant changes to the racing venue have been the establishment of A/B/C categories displacing the previous Elite Racing one night and Master racing the other.  This allows for the P/1/2 racers, who are fortunate enough to be under the age of 30, to race each and every night.  The most exciting change at the velodrome is that the lights have returned.  That’s right, racing under the lights, has returned to the Springs.
