It's been a busy few weeks for the women's team and they've got the results to prove it. April began with the always tough Boulder-Roubaix road race. Modeled after the famed Paris-Roubaix course in France this spring classic is always tough. Sharon “the Hammer” Allpress showed her toughness in the race by scoring an excellent second place. She followed that at AST criterium the next day where she placed 3rd. Later that same day she decided to race again at the criterium hosted by the Colorado School of Mines where she was joined by her teammates Beth Fisk and Renee Eastman. The ladies again were on the podium with Beth in 3rd and Sharon in a close 4th place.
In continuing on her strong streak of races, Sharon again placed herself in the break at the Boulder Beer Race and again scored an excellent 2nd place. Her teammates who were left patrolling the pack finished 6th (Beth) and 12th (Anne).
By the end of April the team was firing on all cylinders and scored the first major win of the season at the Deer Trail Road Race. Beth easily made the final move to win solo, after her teammates Sharon and Renee tired the competition with their repeated attacks. The two finished 4th and 5th respectively. The following day, the team again dominated the race at the famed Stazio course in Boulder where Beth again landed on the podium in a fine 2nd place finish. She was joined on the podium by teammate Carmen Small, who after taking a few weeks off due to illness, finished in 3rd. Renee followed them in coming in 5th.
After getting their first taste of victory the women did it again at the Rabbit Mountain Time trial. This time it was truly a team effort when they won the team time trial. Earlier that day Carmen and Renee did the individual time trial where they again landed on the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively. The time trial on Sunday followed a tough hill climb at Lookout Mountain the previous day. In this 4.5 mile test of strength Renee suprised all those who thought she was just a rouleur and finished 2nd. Carmen was right behind in 4th to make a great weekend of racing for the ladies.
After such a great start to the spring racing in Colorado the ladies are looking forward to some great racing in May which will include the Colorado State Criterium.
