DEER TRAIL DOUBLE

Yesterday's Deer Trail Road Race saw Vitamin Cottage take top honors in both the men's and women's category pro-1-2 races.  Once again the riders were greeted with a steady wind that ripped across the plains of eastern Colorado.  A touch of rain and hail made things even a little more interesting.  In the women's race, Beth Fisk, Renee Eastman, and Sharon Allpress rode a strong race and made the splits all day.  Fisk showed her cards with a strong solo move off the front in the early miles.  Miles later it was Fisk taking a decisive victory at the finish line with Allpress in 4th and Eastman in 5th.

In the men's race, a flurry of early breakaway attempts eventually softened up the pack so that a group of six could escape the field.  The pace and the wind conditions eventually took their toll and the break wittled down to three.   Scott Nydam (Rio Grande/Sports Garage) found himself in a Vitamin Cottage sandwich with Chuck Coyle and Jonathon Baker approaching the line.  Nydam rode honorably and did his best in a grim tactical situation.  At the end it was Baker taking the win with Coyle in second and Nydam in third.  Check out Jon Baker's ERGOMO power file below.  Jon held 335 watts for 5 minutes at the end of the race for the win.
