It was a great day for Colorado's favorite riders. Hours after Chris Wherry (Healthnet Maxxis) won the stars and stripes outright at the USPRO championship in Philly, Vitamin Cottage strongman Jon Tarkington took the City Park Criterium in Denver Colorado, a Colorado Classic.
After a flurry of attacks in the early laps with Vitamin Cottage always in the thick of things, teammates Tarkington and Christian McCarthy got away with Zak Grabowski (TIA CREF) and held the field at bay for the majority of the race. Vitamin Cottage aces Alan McCormack and Dirk Friel took the lead in policing the field behind with teammates Chad Taylor, Joe Pinkerton, and Joe Taddeucci.
With Grabowski outnumbered by two VC's in a break of three, the handwriting was on the wall and it was Tarkington taking the solo victory at the end of the day. Christian McCarthy took a strong second and Grabowski hung on for third.
